The Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Engineering focuses its teaching, research and other academic activities on engineering and technology in the agricultural, food and environmental sectors. Particular emphasis is placed on the essential relationship between technical and biological systems that characterises these fields.
The integration of biological principles with engineering disciplines is a distinctive feature of the Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Engineering,
setting it apart from the more conventional approaches to engineering education adopted by other institutions. The Department intends to continue developing and strengthening this
interdisciplinary approach.
The Department has long sought to strengthen the links between theoretical education, research and practical applications, with particular emphasis on active collaboration
with industry and other professional partners, as well as the provision of consultancy services.
The Department's academic and research staff specialise in agricultural machinery and technologies for crop and livestock production, machinery operation, waste management
and waste treatment technologies, environmental management and auditing, assessment of the technical condition and safety of machinery and equipment, risk prevention,
valuation of movable assets, and the operation, design and valuation of buildings, real estate and technological facilities used in agriculture and municipal services.
The Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Engineering acquired its present structure through a series of mergers involving university departments and academic
units between the early 1990s and 2002. The Department is located in the modern facilities of Building Q.
